I was to Captain the Glasgow to London Heathrow flight, taking off from Glasgow at 09:30, this meaning I had to be at GLA for 8am, to allow me to complete the appropriate checks on my aircraft, which today was to be the Airbus Industrie A319. A small, passenger carrier, which is used by many airlines, to fly small domestic and European routes.
I had already changed into my uniform before leaving my home, which is around a thirty minute drive from Glasgow Intl. I was ready to board my aircraft, but decided to go and get myself a coffee from Starbucks - getting my priorities right as usual! Then after this I made my way to the gate. |
At the gate, I met with my First Officer for the flight, and we discussed our conditions for flying. The conditions today were good. A very light wind was felt in Glasgow, but this was not going to affect the conditions for our flight. Even though one hour and twenty minutes is allowed for this flight, neither of us though that we would need it. |
|
So, our aircraft was ready and waiting for us. We had to complete the necessary aircraft checks as stated by Airbus Industrie and by the airline. Aircraft checks for the Airbus A319 include simple things like, checking your transponder radio, flaps, rudder etc., and by the time we had checked all of the safety aspects, just one final inspection of our cabin.
As passengers boarded, cabin crew showed them to their seats, as usual and welcomed them onboard.
Once the aircraft was loaded I welcomed the passengers onto the flight in the usual way, and informed that whilst taxiing there would be a safety demonstration given by cabin crew. |

After getting clearance from Glasgow Air Traffic Control, we were pushed back and begun taxi to runway 23. Once we had reached the runway, and altered settings for take off, we waited for our clearance from Air Traffic Control, and once we had this we were ready to depart to London.
We took off and got in line with our position from bearings outlined on the flight plan. |
After reaching today's cruising altitude of 32,000ft for the Airbus Industrie A319 it was set to be a pretty normal flight. We maintained an airspeed of around 500 - 550 mph.
Cabin crew had started with their duties, and the First Officer and myself, were just making sure all of our instruments were in order and that we were keeping in line with Air Traffic Control.
After around forty minutes flying time we begun our descent into LHR, we had been given pattern and entry instructions from Heathrow's Air Traffic Controllers and were ready to descend into runway 27L. |
After landing, we made our way to the gate on the taxiway, and prepared the aircraft to do the same trip once again. After pretty much the same trip, I made my way home at around 1pm. I had to service my aircraft and certify that everything was as it should be with it, which it was.

| For me, another typical flight under the wonderful technology of the Airbus Industrie A319. |
